Our journey to learning dependence on Christ has been an adventure. God has continually proven Himself to be faithful, constant, loving, and more than enough for us.
After about 5 years of marriage, we were on the brink of destruction in our family. We had two children and had already begun co-existing. I disengaged from the family and focused on "building my ministry" as I was serving as a youth pastor at a church. We definitely weren't on the same page as a couple or as parents.
We sat down together on our couch to talk about our options. Agreeing that we couldn't spend the rest of our lives this way, we could only think of two things: (1) divorce or (2) a huge change in us.
Soon after this discussion, Dani was visiting another mom in a nearby town. After leaving her house, she felt led to drive by her friend's church. She got the number for the church offices off the sign and called to ask if they had a counselor. Gwen Moore was there and God began using her in our lives in a powerful way. This was the beginning of restoration for Dani and me and our family!
In the fall of 2005, Dani went through a study with a group of women called Be Transformed that is produced by Scope Ministries. After the first week, she was reading some of the information to me and I got my own copy to go through it as well. God worked through this study to open our eyes to the faulty belief system that we built our lives on and how that was affecting everything we did, said, thought, and felt.
A few months after finishing this study, we went to a conference led by Bill Loveless of Christ Is Life Ministries. God revealed Himself to us powerfully and tangibly through Bill and our lives have never been the same. The things God revealed through Bill made the information we learned from Be Transformed become revelation as God renewed our minds with His Truth. After attending a few more conferences led by Bill, I began meeting with him and praying about beginning Living In Freedom Ministries.
We incorporated Living In Freedom (LIFe) in the fall of 2006 and had our first event in November 2006 while I was still on staff as a youth pastor. On January 1, 2007 I was officially no longer on staff at a church and I was working full-time at LIFe Ministries.
At the end of 2012, I began as Young Adults Pastor at Bent Tree Bible in Carrollton, TX. It took several months to sell our home and get our family moved to the North Dallas area but we are now all together again!
God continues to stretch us, excite us, motivate us, teach us, and change us through this adventure of faith we're on. There have been incredibly difficult moments that have been times of encouragement for our faith as we have watched God do what only He can do.
We are still learning dependence on Him in each moment as He reminds us that He is our Source for life and that His life is abundant. Some days are better than others, and we are thankful that He is good, He is trustworthy, and He is always enough!
